Reflections on the Wall

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial bears the names of 58,000 men and women who sacrificed their lives in service during the Vietnam War. The memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982 with an emotional ceremony in Washington D.C. The event which was largely viewed as the end to one of the most contentious periods in American history.

With Reflections on the Wall, the Museum presents a series of poignant images from the dedication of the memorial. This collection of photographs comes directly from the Smithsonian Institution, capturing the historical significance of an event which marked the beginning of a national reconciliation.
